The Thread Chest

When Margaret LaForge, a famous fashion designer, learns her missing diplomat husband may still be alive, she rushes off to Paris, leaving her two daughters in care of the cook. After several weeks, fifteen-year-old Bridget and her younger sister Kalin learn they must leave their home and travel to the United States to live with their grandfather. Kalin refuses to leave her mother's special chest behind. She knows it's not an ordinary chest. It not only sings, but talks. The sisters are accompanied on their overseas journey by the peculiar Mr. Bentley, who safely delivers them to their grandfather's New York home, the place where the girls' mother grew up. There's a lot to explore in grandfather's house, and when Kalin discovers the chest again at his home, an entire magical world opens to her. She makes many new little friends and one very special friend who is the most mysterious of all.
