They Gave You Shoes

United States warship: Cruiser Tuscaloosa. A girl and a boy, friends in the years during World War II. This is a story depicting life in Chicago, Illinois, the United States and the world during an era which many believe to be history's finest generation, albeit with the usual warts. The ideology, the ethics, and the standards all have to be understood to appreciate this contrasting period of time. This then is also a story of a generation and the people involved. It revolves around a relationship between a girl and a boy thrust together on their very first day of high school and how their friendship and love develops and sometimes falters. The young man is drawn into the conflict of World War II aboard a naval warship where his experiences in the war, and how he handles the danger and the lifestyle forced upon him, is told through his eyes.
