At the closing stages of the F.A. Carling Premier League season in 1999-2000, West London Football Club's continual endeavour to stave off relegation to Division One of the Football League was looking more and more unlikely. In the seven years since its formation it had never experienced such consistent difficulty. it was hard enough competing against some of the best clubs in the world on a level playing field but, unknown to them, an additional party was determined; by foul means including, blackmail, robbery, assault and murder; to extinguish any chance the club had of surviving.
