The boundaries between mercy and murder are unclear in the story of Elliot Klitzing, who has been arrested for killing a woman he was trying to save. With only a six-hour window of opportunity, Elliot negotiates the truth with Ira, a once-accomplished reporter whose role as husband and caregiver has prevented him from his career for more than fifteen years. Together, the men explore their captivities: Elliot's prison in both love and within a hidden slave room used during the Civil War, and Ira's coma ridden wife. As lines ultimately fade between captor and captivation, between the need for freedom and the desire to be needed, impossible questions prove inescapable.
