Descrizione Supermassive Black Holes and their host Galaxies

Understanding how supermassive black holes and galaxies coevolve within their host dark matter halos is a fundamental issue in Astrophysics. The scenario arising from the results of this book indicates that the black holes grow by accretion in a self-regulated regime, where the presence of a reservoire plays a fundamental role. In the meanwhile, star formation in the host galaxy proceeds within a heavily dust-enshrouded medium, and after roughly 1 Gyr abruptly declines due to quasar feedback. The coevolution of galaxies and hosted supermassive black holes within the gravitationally dominant dark matter component throughout the history of the Universe is also investigated by applying a statistical, model-independent approach based on continuity equation and abundance matching. Thanks to the recent results presented and to the introductive chapters, this book should be very useful in the academic environment.
