In The Song of the Distant Root, Salustio, a villager, sets out with his family in tow, in search of Tapihue, a place where a sense of community can be realized. Although it is not clear whether he imagines or actually finds Tapihue, it is the journey that takes precedence. A lyrical narration akin to Juan Rulfo's work in its search for the meaning of one's existence.
