Seeing Lhasa: British Depictions Of The Tibetan Capital, 1936-1947

During the 1930s and 1940s the British cultivated political and social relations with the Tibetan elite. This photographic study reveals the way in which the city, its palaces, monasteries and mansions became the backdrop for a social world in which the British and Tibetans interacted.
