Schwanengesang: Facsimilies of the Autograph Score and Sketches, and Reprint of the First Edition

Franz Schubert's last fourteen songs, collected as a cycle entitled Schwanengesang, include some of his greatest and most popular lieder -- among them "Der Atlas", "Standchen", "Die Stadt", and "Doppelganger". This valuable volume makes available for the first time all the major primary-source materials relating to Schwanengesang.The book features a facsimile of the composer's autograph score (now held by the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York), Schubert's extant sketches for three songs, and a reproduction of the rare and authoritative first edition issued in Vienna in 1829 by Schubert's publisher, within six months of the composer's death.
