"The rules to love" was written with the intent to educate people on a better way to pursue and preserve a long lasting relationship. The book talks about the importance of getting to know someone before making any commitment to that person. The author also list ten things that he calls the building blocks or needed elements to start a relationship. Those building blocks are listed as communication, honesty, trust, compatibility, affection, acceptability, understanding, loyalty, commitment and appreciation.
In illustrating the importance of these building blocks, the author compared the starting of a relationship to that of building a house. He carefully instructs anyone dating to start with a solid foundation. That solid foundation was pointed out as Communication, Honesty and trust.
The book was designed to give readers a virtual reality of the fictional characters used to depict the important points made in the book.
