Meet Sara Mannone, the underpaid, overworked director of the Sierra Nevada Womenas Center in the beautiful foothills of northern California. Every day Sara juggles coordinating client services, volunteers, and under-funded agency programs. None of this prepared her to discover the body of her friend, John Simon, one rainy Monday morning. John specialized in environmental law. He left Sara his journal detailing nasty shenanigans between a county supervisor and a shady commercial developer. How the newly constructed Gold Country Shopping Center was allowed to be built over a protected wetlands habitat was a mystery. Jake Hatch, a young meth addict John helped, is now linked to his death. Jake runs and, through a twist of fate, finds unexpected answers.
