Descrizione A Proteomic Approach for Bordetella Pertussis
The genus Bordetella contains several pathogenicspecies generally associated with upper respiratorytract infections in warm-blooded animals. Bordetellapertussis is the etiologic agent of whooping cough.Whooping cough is presently one of the ten mostcommon causes of death from infectious diseases andreported by the World Health Organisation (WHO) tocause 50 million cases and 350000 deaths worldwideper year. The term proteome, in analogy to the term genome, wascoined to describe the complete set of proteins thatan organism has produced under a defined set ofconditions. Proteomics has been used to identifynovel bacterial vaccine candidates against severalhuman pathogens. Much of information aboutimmunogenic component can be derived from proteomicscoupled to Western blotting, namely immunoproteomics. In the present study, we report firstimmunoproteomics analysis to identify candidateantigens of B. pertussis for vaccine development.Different sera from mice, which were immunized orchallenged with B. pertussis, were analyzed forreactivity by Western blot against whole cellextracts of B. pertussis Tohama and Saadet strainsseparated by 2-DE.
