One Ocean

Der vom österreichischen Architekturbüro soma geplante Themenpavillon für die EXPO 2012 verkörpert das Thema der Weltausstellung The living Ocean and Coast auf vielschichtige Weise und macht es für die Besucher räumlich erfahrbar. Das Vorhaben der koreanischen Bauherren einen verantwortungsvollen Umgang mit natürlichen Ressourcen zu vermitteln, sollte nicht durch zeichenhafte Gesten repräsentiert, sondern architektonisch umgesetzt werden etwa durch ein nachhaltiges Klimakonzept oder das neuartige biomimetische Prinzip der beweglichen Lamellenfassade. Das Buch dokumentiert den innovativen Entwurfs- und Umsetzungsprozess und diskutiert Potentiale von digitalen Designmethoden und biomimetischen Ansätzen für die Architektur. The main design intent for the Expo's main landmark planned by the Austrian architecture office soma was to embody its theme The Living Ocean and Coast and transform it into a multi-layered architectural experience. Therefore the Expo's agenda, namely the responsible use of natural resources was not visually represented, but actually embedded into the building, e.g. through the sustainable climate design or the biomimetic approach of the cutting-edge kinetic façade system. The synergy of spatial vision and technological innovation has always been an important aspect of world expositions. The Theme Pavilion renews this tradition. As a moving, emotional experience, it combines sensations with the sensational, while communicating the Expo theme in an innovative manner. The book provides insights into the advanced processes of design and implementation. With essays by Kari Jormakka, Marjan Colletti, Georg Vrachliotis and Jan Knippers.
