Descrizione Montpelier Railway Station
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Montpelier railway station is on the Severn Beach Line and serves the district of Montpelier in Bristol, England. It is 2.85 miles (4.59 km) from Bristol Temple Meads. It was opened in 1874 by the Great Western and Midland Railways as part of the Clifton Extension Railway. It was originally built as double-track, but was singled in 1970. Services had decreased during the 20th century, and by 1995 there was talk of the line being closed completely, but services were improved following action by the campaign group Friends of Suburban Bristol Railways, and in the nine years 2002-11, the station saw an 80% increase in passenger numbers. As of 2012, it is managed by First Great Western, which is the sixth company to be responsible for the station, and the third franchise since privatisation in 1997. They provide all train services at the station, mainly a train every forty minutes in each direction between Bristol Temple Meads and Avonmouth.
