Descrizione Magma mixing processes

Magma mixing, a controversial theory for a long timethat is now commonly accepted, describes interactionbetween coeval felsic and mafic magmas. It comprisesmechanical, thermal, and chemical exchanges betweenmagmatic liquids and is significant in the generationof calc-alkaline granitoids. Processes are recordedby internal texture and chemistry of minerals.Different optical methods: polarization microscope, cathodoluminescence (CL), and Nomarski differentialinterference contrast (DIC) microscopy, are combinedtogether to demonstrate efficiency in integration oftechnical methods for petrographic studies. Specialattention is paid to plagioclase which recordsphysical and chemical changes in the existingenvironment during crystallisation. In addition tooptical observations, geochemical analyses were alsomade. All observations and measurements wereundertaken on samples collected in Szklarska PorebaHuta/SW Poland. Rocks in this area show signs ofmagma mixing processes and belong to the Karkonoszegranite pluton - an early Carboniferous intrusion inthe central part of the Karkonosze-Izera Massif/Sudetes.
