Rodr guez, of Spanish descent, was born in Burnley, Lancashire, the son of Kiko and Carol Rodr guez. He attended Heasandford Primary School and Barden High School in the town. His father briefly played for Deportivo de La Coru a before spending some time at Burnley in 1983.
