Iscariot

Called in Ireland "an outstanding novel reflecting the human realities of priestly celibacy today, " Iscariot is the second novel by the author of In the Season of the Daisies. Set in rural Ireland, it is the homecoming story of Frank Molloy, a "failed" priest returning from the U.S., and what his relationship is with longtime parish priest Fr. Edward Keegan and with others in the village.The book covers a number of minefields -- the Catholic Church, celibacy, sexuality, rural identify, murder, and the quest for honor and truth. Though dark, it is also humorous, often farcically so. Iscariot has a "whodunnit" narrative that grips the reader to the last page, with an undercurrent of the search for redemption throughout.
