As a little girl growing up in Arkansas, Clair Stephens wore hand-me-downs and shoes too small for her feet because her family couldn't afford better. She fled to the big city when she came of age, pursuing wealth, status, and a life of comfort. By the time she realized she was selling her soul to obtain those things, it was almost too late. Now Clair has come home. Attempting to hide from four years of bad choices, she seeks solace in the whispering pines that protect the trickling stream called Horsehead.
