This early works was originally published in 1897. Preface: There are numerous histories of Israel and of the time of Christ, but they are voluminous and costly works. The ordinary maps of Palestine, the limited number in our teachers' Bible, or the folded ones in books of travel, do not meet the want. They either are not adapted to the period under consideration, or they contain so much and so many details as to be confusing, or they are too large for practical purposes, and ill adapted for use in teaching. The Geography should be based upon the results of an actual survey. It should present the natural features of the land in a plain and attractive manner, showing especially those things which the ordinary reader of the Bible most often wishes to find.... This early works is extensively illustrated throughout. Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900's and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive.
