Good Neighbours: Some Recollections of an English Village and Its People

Walter Rose, the author of the classic book The Village Carpenter, recounts the life of the village in which he grew up. Looking back, he comments on how it had a character that, as a boy, he did not appreciate. He traces the changes that created the village -- the way in which farmers, yeoman and labourers worked, the use of traditional implements, their interaction with land and animals.
