Descrizione Global Perspectives On Anti-Feminism
Analyses far-right and religious attacks on gender equality and sexual diversity on a global level In recent years issues of gender and sexuality have become a political battlefield, on which far-right, religious and conservative actors wage their war against liberal and left-wing ideas as well as emancipatory movements. This collection brings together views from five different continents to shed light on the anti-feminist politics and strategies shaping this ideology. Starting with an analytical understanding of current anti-feminist discourses, mobilisations and policies, which include anti-gender discourses, anti-LGBTIQ+ mobilisations and attacks on sexual and reproductive rights, this volume explores different actors and their embeddedness in national, regional and international networks. It argues that in order to analyse anti-feminism, one should not separate opposition to women's equality from opposition to trans- or LGBTIQ+ rights but rather analyse their interconnectedness. The book expands the scope of the discussion from an a priori focus on specific sets of actors such as 'the global right', 'populism' or 'fundamentalism' and promotes a global perspective on the culture wars around sex and gender. The contributions show how transnational networks spread discourses, which were developed in the Global North, and how such discourses become re-articulated in different national, political and religious contexts.
