Five Rows of Barbed Wire

Through the late 1800's and early 1900's tens of thousands of Asian and European immigrants journeyed to Canada to escapethe never ending wars on their continents. They were hopeful of a new, peaceful life in Canada. Years later for many, they were met with something in Canada they were not expecting. Tens of thousands were rounded up during World War II and became Prisoners of War. The wives and children of those imprisoned were left behind to fend for themselves. Many had no homes and wound up begging in the streets. What these families endured is beyond belief. The story in this book is about Oskar and Theresia Bendl, and the other immigrants to Canada at that time, what brought them here, and the fate that befell them. This is the true story of what really happened in Canada during World War II.
