One domain alone... is said to have contained 35 long - horned and 220 hornless cattle, but, until anatomical proof is forthcoming, the existence in ancient Egypt of a race comparable with the hornless races of the modern world remains not proven, as the animals represented as horn less may have been simply mutilated.The famous Hathor from Deir el Bahari a typical specimen of the old race, resembles many drawn at Memphis or Thebes. The small head, narrow chest, thin shoulders, long, well curved spine, high and thin legs, muscular thighs, prominent bips, and small udders are typical. The coat is brownish red, dark on the back, lighter and tawny, shading into white, on the belly, and is studded with dark spots like flowerets, which might be looked upon as artificial, were it not that the coats of modern Sudanese cattle are similarly marked.
