Descrizione Eggplant breeding
Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) is a common and popular vegetable crop grown in subtropics and tropics regions. It is called brinjal in India, and in Europe aubergine. Eggplant is a perennial crop grown commercially as an annual crop. Eggplant, or brinjal, is a member of the family Solanaceae and genus solanum. The aim of this investigation is to improve the productivity and quality of three local landraces of eggplant by increasing its homogeneity through selfing and selecting the best individual genotypes for two successive generations to produce pure lines. Heritability, response to selection, correlation coefficients among studied characters and path-way analysis between yield and several quantitative characters were considered in this investigation.
