Ebook The World Above

In September 2013 a young, successful Roman surgeon named Marco, his childhood friend Sergio, and a mountaineering expert named Karl become part of an expedition organized by two Chilean guides headed toward a remote location in the Andean cordillera. Due to an unforeseeable seismic event the two guides perish while the other three members of the expedition are swept by an underground river into a volcanic crater, inhabited by the Mountain of the Sun people, isolated for centuries from the rest of mankind. Sergio, who falls into the lake beneath, is sacrificed and devoured by the inhabitants of the valley, while Marco and Karl manage to save themselves by taking refuge on a terrace overhanging the crater.
