Descrizione Ebook Constructive resistance in Europe. Autonomy practices and solidarity trade
A decade before the advent of austerity measures, social movements have actively developed forms of constructive resistance to capitalism, proposing alternative practices, based on the belief that ‘another world is possible.’ In opposition to mass media representations portraying social movements as antagonistic towards globalization issues and offering no solutions, these actors have combined critiques of the exploitative tendencies of capitalist society with the creation of networks with the aim of generating autonomous ways of living that reject global capitalist values. This book explores how European social movements have actively contested the contention that there is no alternative to capitalism by constructing alternative trading practices in solidarity with marginalized peoples in the global South. Constructive resistance in Europe: Autonomy practices and solidarity trade is therefore an analysis of the multiscalar relationships characterizing a network of European political groups that support the Zapatista movement (Redprozapa) in Mexico by importing and distributing Zapatista coffee, implementing practices of constructive resistance via fair trade.
