To such persons a knowledge of the theory of colour, its cause and production, and a succinct account of the phenomena which occur on mixing colours to gether in various ways, will be of interest. In the fol lowing pages it has been the author's endeavour to present such matters as clearly as possible, and, while keeping in mind the latest investigations in the field of colour, particular attention has been paid to the requirements of the practical man, an explanation being given of the results which are obtained by mix ing-various dyes and pigments together, phenomena which occur every day to the dyer and painter.
