In the mid nineteen thirties, the Tennessee Valley Authority began to construct the first of several dams in the Big Valley of eastern Tennessee. Lee Hanberry, a member of one of the thousands of families that would be uprooted and forced to move, is the main character in this story. His initiation into manhood and his employment with the TVA led to his first encounter with love, which had a tragic ending. His subsequent determination, perseverance and competitive spirit won him the title of achampion TVA worker, a an honor that opened unexpected new doors. Lee met another love and also made friends with no less a person than the President of the United States. This story is good, wholesome reading for any member of the family.
