Diversity and Distribution of water birds at Punatshangchu River

Bhutan just with 38,394 Sq Km area harbor rich biodiversity of flora, fauna and avi-fauna comparing to many of the nations in the world today. The avi- fauna diversity is 731 but there are still many more are to be recorded. Forest cover of more than 72% of the total land area of the country is the prime source of rich bio diversity. Bottom - Up planning with consultation local community, decentralized policy and guidance from our far sighted monarchs to conserve the forest and environment all the time are the foundation pillar of our intact forest cover. Seven river system of the country provides excellent place for water bird survival including winter migratory birds. Wet land above 3000 msl are also common habitat for water birds. So far one endangered, three Vulnerable and two are near threatened as per Central Asia Fly way Action Plan out of 106 water birds of the country.
