DARK CIRCUS

Alberto de Chirico is the Master of Ceremonies of this "Dark Circus", the occult architect who has immortalized his freaks as black angels, evanescent and luciferous presences, attractive and seductive. This light painting work seems most appropriate for the theme the artist has chosen to address: these creatures know how to combine opposites, are terrible and sweet at the same time, and seem to promise something that continually eludes, or allude to a sublime, an enjoyment for which there are no words. A parade of spectres, of phantasmagorical creatures, of small, subtle cruelties that call our gaze and invite us to look into the face of that from which we do nothing but flee. Alberto's technical brilliance as a photographer transforms each of his images from a simple picture to a sensual work of art. His photos are realized in LIGHT PAINTING, a photography technique that uses a moving light source (e.g., a flashlight) to add light to a subject while taking a long-exposure photograph. A scene or object can be brought to life by painting with a beam of light. When light painting, the photographer, become an entirely different kind of artist. Instead of just capturing an image as it's presented, he create the image that the camera is capturing.
