Va bene la nascita dello stile gotico, va bene la bravura oggettiva dell'autore, va bene l'epoca in cui è inserita la sua opera, va bene la scoperta del lato oscura di ognuno di noi. MA Poe è uno che alimenta l'angoscia, francamente io non ne ho bisogno, perché di motivi per angosciarsi nella vita di tutti i giorni ce ne sono quanti ne vogliamo. Non posso dire che è un libro brutto, ma che non è per me sì.

Poesie meravigliose quelle Poe. Sono oniriche, dal sapore fantastico e misterioso. La più bella a mio avviso è Annabel Lee, che consiglio di leggere in lingua per non perderne la musicalità: It was many and many a year ago, In a kingdom by the sea, That a maiden there lived whom you may know By the name of ANNABEL LEE; And this maiden she lived with no other thought Than to love and be loved by me. I was a child and she was a child, In this kingdom by the sea; But we loved with a love that was more than love- I and my Annabel Lee; With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven Coveted her and me. And this was the reason that, long ago, In this kingdom by the sea, A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling My beautiful Annabel Lee; So that her highborn kinsman came And bore her away from me, To shut her up in a sepulchre In this kingdom by the sea. The angels, not half so happy in heaven, Went envying her and me- Yes!- that was the reason (as all men know, In this kingdom by the sea) That the wind came out of the cloud by night, Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee. questo testo è uno dei grandi classici che hanno ispirato la poesia mondiale a partire dai nostri poeti "sepolcrali", Poe ha il grande pregio di unire una maestria lirica senza limiti e l'oscurità delle sue tematiche in un connubio artistico senza tempo

Il corvo è di gran lunga la più apprezzata e famosa poesia di Poe, ma tutta la produzione in rima dello scrittore statunitense merita di essere letta. Certo, per goderne appieno è preferbile leggere la versione originale, ovviamente per chi conosce l'inglese.
