It had been established that weevil infestation in cowpea is tantamount to rotten fruits, as every infestation lead to the reduction in nutritional composition of cowpea and its product. The taste, aroma and texture of cowpea products are not spared as infestation has negative impact on them. Interestingly in Nigeria for example, people accidentally consume weevil along in their cowpea meal, not minding the side effect this could have on them.
