There is currently a trend of designing newcommercial buildings with large glazed façades.Maintaining comfort in the perimeter zones of thesebuildings is difficult due to their transmittance ofsolar radiation and exposure to cold outdoor air temperature. Designing these buildings withhigh-performance façades, however, can improve energyperformance, provide a high-quality thermal andvisual environment, and reduce thermal loads. This book presents an experimental and simulationstudy of the indoor thermal environment of aperimeter zone office with glass façade and solarshading device. The study investigates the impact ofclimate, glazing type, and shading propertieson thermal comfort.By considering comfort as a key consideration inbuilding design from the initial design stage throughto building occupancy, it can be ensured that newhigh-performance and passive solar buildings are, notonly aesthetically pleasing and energy-efficient, butalso comfortable and enjoyable places to work and live.
