Excerpt from Annual Report of the School Committee of the City of Boston, 1877Most, if not all, of this excess of work, however, must be attributed to the lack of adaptation of the present programme of studies to the present condition of our schools, and cannot properly be charged to the new system of examinations. The tendency of these examinations is rather to broaden instruction.
