Biophotonics

Biophotonics describes the use of the most advanced optical technologies in biological and medical research, including advanced microscopy and spectroscopy methods. These are combined with the latest computer technology for such tasks as pattern recognition, and the applications range from cell biology and cancer research to the detection of allergens. This is an account of a three-year research program funded by the German government, in which physicists and physical chemists set off together with biologists and physicians to develop new techniques for medical and biological problems and ended up with sophisticated scientific solutions and innovative equipment, partly ready for the market.
