Excerpt from Annual Report of the State Geologist: For the Year 1894The structure of the rock underlying this old plateau is such as to demonstrate that its surface was produced by the degradation of a still older and higher surface. This degradation is believed to have been effected by streams, which had so far widened their valleys, and so far obliterated the inter-stream ridges as to have developed the sort of surface referred to above.
