Applied Microbial Physiology

Micro-organisms are increasingly used as sources of biochemicals, whether a stable enzyme from a heat-loving bacterium or a human protein expressed by a recombinant yeast. Microbial culture is thus practised by a wide range of scientists whose initial training has been in other fields. The purpose of this book is to guide them through successful culture, and once the product of interest has been obtained in pure form, to help them optimize the yield and scale-up the process.
