Excerpt: Host Greg Wolf actually came to horse racing through a boyhood love of basketball. As a boy growing up in Marin County, Greg was an avid follower of UCLA men's basketball and played the sport as much as he could. When he finally came to attend UCLA, he majored in political science but did not miss the opportunity offered by the campus radio and TV stations. He became an on-air sports personality, covering men's and women's basketball, volleyball, soccer and gymnastics. He scored particular success as host and producer of the popular UCLA Bruin Talk TV show. It was this experience that decided him on a career in sports. After graduating from UCLA, Greg interned at the CBS station in Fresno, where he worked for two years before moving on to Fox Sports as a writer for the network's national prime-time sports show. After a couple of years at Fox, he sent a demo tape to the office of TVG, then in its formative stage. The tape, backed up by his solid experience, landed him a job when TVG launched in the summer of 1999. Greg came to the job with no background in horse racing, yet this actually proved to be an asset. The network wanted someone who could relate to the novice racing fan, someone who could anticipate the basic questions and answer them in layman's terms. Greg made himself a student of the sport, and the sport, in turn, has given him a fitting stage to display his own exceptional talent.
