Das Gefieder ist gro teils schwarz gef rbt, die Unterseite ist mit wei gesprenkelt. Der rote Kopf ist federlos. Der gelbe oder blau-graue Kehlkopf schwillt beim M nnchen w hrend der Paarungszeit an. Weitere Kennzeichen sind die langen Beine und der seitlich abgeflachte Schwanz.
