Active Living Among Older Adults

Serving as a reference to a broad spectrum of scientific studies on the health impacts of active living among older adults, this work offers professionals and students in a variety of disciplines easy access to the health evidence supporting physically active lifestyles. The perceived effects are organized into separate categories, including physical health, disease prevention, psychosocial attitudes, lifestyle behavior, and economic well-being. Also, the majority of the scientific studies reviewed in this work were made in the United States. Although the focus in this work is limited to adults over 50, the amount of available information from disease prevention to economic savings is surprising. Health educators, public health officials, therapists, physical educators, physicians, geriatricians, home support caregivers, nursing staff, hospital administrators, researcher, policy analysts, and government agencies will all find the scientific support they need to convince authorities of the improved health and quality of life available to elderly communities with more active living. Those designing community organized into separate programs and health promotion interventions will benefit immensely from this resource. The summary table allow readers to seek out the most effective project designs, and thereby avoid past pitfalls. Moreover, previous designs can be compared, and low-cost but highly effective strategies can be identified. Without this support, research proposals and community interventions require hundreds of hours of research. This text provides that support, saving time and money.
