Sviluppo di un programma sas® per la gestione degli archivi anagrafici degli animali di interesse zootecnico

The aim of this study is the elaboration of a sas program able to find and correct automatically some common errors in animal pedigrees. An accurate pedigree is the prerequisite for the success of genetic analysis. The development of this program was determined by the necessity of the simplification of the usual pedigree cleaning procedures that involve different software to find different errors. The whole package comprehends four different programs developed in sas: sex_check, age_check, loop_check and gen_info. Sex_check is a program developed to find errors in the animal sex registration data, age_check finds any discrepancies between the date of birth of an animal and its parents and loop_chek finds subjects that appear several times along the pedigree, while gen_info generates a count of the number of the generations in the pedigree. Sas macro features were used to automate the management and data cleaning operations and the efficiency of the developed programs were tested by comparing the results with the ones obtained with cfc software.
