In the barnyard, at nightfall. On the right side the harvesters’ hut, on the left a haystack; piles of sheaves and rural tools scattered here and there. In the background the wide length of lowlands, veiled by the evening, and the flow of the river, between the bulrushes and the reeds. From afar voices passing by, tired songs; the clinking bells of the herds descending for water, and now and then the yelp of the dogs, strewed along the countryside, where the Sirocco’s gusts flow, with the baggy rustle of the mature fodders. During the intervals of silence, the murmur of the water and the continuous chirping of the crickets seem to spread all around. The moon begins its rising, glowing – blanching little by little, in a sultry halo.
