Descrizione Themes in modern African history and culture

This volume is a collection of essays in honour of Tekeste Negash and the role he has played in the field of African studies. The collection is the result of the contributions of a great number of scholars and friends, who in various ways have worked with Tekeste Negash and have been researching into the topics so dear to him.
The field of African studies is very extensive and necessarily the result of a multidisciplinary approach, which is well represented in this volume. A complex and cross-cultural panorama that Tekeste Negash, with his eclectic personality and multifaceted scientific approach, has significantly contributed to develop.
The first section of the volume is glued by a theme on which Tekeste Negash only recently devoted his attention, religion and capitalism in Africa. The second section goes to the core of Tekeste’s work, i.e. history and society. During his life and career he has thoroughly reflected on the role of education and more recently law and the use of local languages in Africa; on these topics the third and fourth sections are focused. The final section is a contribution to the work that Tekeste has done in the field of international relations and politics.
