Benito Vittorio Frosini has been a Full Professor of Statistics in the Faculty of Economics of the Catholic University of Milan since 1983, after teaching in the universities of Turin and Genoa. On occasion of his 70th birthday, the Author presents this volume of Selected Papers, which includes 36 papers chosen among about a hundred, published between 1965 and 2010. The papers comprised in this volume provide an extensive documentation of the several research interests cultivated by the Author, which are exposed in detail in the introductory section. The many research topics, carried out within the space of 45 years, have been almost equally subdivided between the topics pertaining to descriptive statistics, and the topics pertaining to statistical inference, with an unbroken development in the whole period of his scientific production. In the introductory section entitled Contents of research work, most of the papers are collected, and commented on, under eleven headings: 1. Inequality (or concentration); 2. Price index-numbers and consumer behaviour; 3. Point and interval estimation; 4. Asymmetric and skew distributions; 5. Diversity – or heterogeneity- indices; 6. Goodness-of-fit tests and measures; 7. Summary measures of distributions and optimality criteria; 8. Surveys of descriptive statistics and sampling theory; 9. Logic of statistical inference; 10. Statistics and decisions; 11. Forensic applications of Statistics.
