Focusing on the NA+/H+ Exchanger, this text discusses the protein and its recently-characterized isoforms. The work compares these isoforms with other NA+/H+ Exchanger isoforms of non-mammalian species, and shows the role of the protein in the contractile failure associated with ischaemia.
