Selections of primary source materials from the diverse group of Indian nations collectively referred to as Indians of the Great Plains are organized thematically in chapters on Childhood, Education, and Kinship; Everyday Activities; Religious Traditions; Storytelling; Times of Great Change; Further Interaction with Whites; and Relocation and Life Today. Both historic and contemporary excerpts are presented, along with the art of George Catlin and others.
