This expanded, enlarged and revised classic provides researchers with an in-depth look at public sources for genealogical research in the United States. Its primary goals are to introduce readers to many different kinds of public sources and encourage them to branch out and investigate sources with which they may be unfamiliar. The text gives examples of the genealogical information in many kinds of sources along with tips for using or interpreting these sources. Both long and mini-case studies--including African-American, American Indian, and one dealing with the search for an immigrant ancestor--provide readers with real-life research examples of just how these sources can be used.
