A Celebration of Art: Notes from a Collector

Jane Joel Knox is presently serving her second term on the Board of Trustees of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Her appreciation of painting, sculpture, and decorative arts has made her a significant supporter of the Art Conservation Laboratory and the Research Library at VMFA. Through her support, the Reading Room of the Library is named in memory of her first husband, Irving Joel (1928-1994). In the course of research on one of her paintings in France, she met her second husband, Joe Knox, a former teacher of Art History in French. In 2005, she was named Collector of the Year by VMFA. She celebrates her collecting with this book, which originally was planned as a little volume to tell her eight grandchildren about the works of art that now surround her why she bought them and how they have become even more meaningful to her.
